Ms. Franz was born Sally Martha Blue in Philadelphia. Pa. in 1951 and raised in Ho-ho-kus, New Jersey. With that beginning is it any wonder Ms. Franz went into stand-up comedy and humor writing? Along with jesting and nesting (she has two daughters and two grandchildren) Ms. Franz received a degree in Gerontology and Human Resources. She worked for The City of New York, Pacific Dunlop, Save-the-Children, and UNICEF. After which she started her own corporate speaking and training company: Geronto Communications. Her clients have included: McCann Erickson Worldwide, The National Episcopal Church, Intel, SONY, Yahoo!, Texaco-Chevron. As a national speaker Ms. Franz has also appeared on The Today Show (3 times) with Al Roker and Willard Scott, LifeTime Cable, CNBC, The Maury Povitch Show as well as hosting several local TV series and a radio show.

  • “Monster Lies…A Woman’s Guide to Controlling Her Destiny”

Her two most recent books are the humor/inspiration/motivational: “Scrambled Leggs…A Snarky Tale of Hospital Hooey”, and “Scrambled Life?…3 Secrets to Getting Your Life back.”

This is my review on her book at Amzaon:

5.0 out of 5 stars Humor Heals!, March 20, 2010
By Carra Riley (Williams, Arizona, USA) – See all my reviews
This review is from: Scrambled Leggs: A Snarky Tale of Hospital Hooey (Paperback)

Scrambled Leggs is a delightful read with wonderful lessons. Sally Franz shows us the way to rise above the physical picture and look for good through humor. She describes misdiagnosis and many fiascoes she had to endure with her horrendous ski accident experience. She has us laughing through the hallways. This book creates great giggle power and makes you laugh out loud. Sally shares how the “real you” is never touched by anything on the material level. She was paralyzed at a ski resort on a Holiday week-end and now walks, proving that even the most difficult situation can be overcome with the right consciousness. Her gift to the reader is something to be cherished.

After reading this book you will feel like you have been friends with Sally for years! I can say with authority “read it” you will be glad you did.

You can get in touch with Sally and learn more by visiting her website, E-mail her at sallydianefranz@gmail.com, or call her at (252) 343-9183. You can also follow her on twitter @Sallyfranz, friend her on facebook, or fan her on facebook.

Blog Ranking SEO 101 for Beginners Part 2 of 3 Content

Blog Ranking SEO 101 for Beginners Part 2 of 3 Content

Blog Ranking SEO 101 for Beginners Part 1 of 3 Title

Part 2 of this very elementary beginner post series will discuss CONTENT in relation to SEO, Search Engine Optimization ranking on Google, Bing, MSN, Yahoo, and other search engines.

This is a follow up to the Rain Camp in Las Vegas where Ben Kinney presented information on this somewhat complex topic. His presentation helped me formulate a plan for this post content.

From Wikipedia:

“Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site or a web page (such as a blog) from search engines via “natural” or un-paid (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results.”.

Another term that could be associated with SEO ranking is “google juice.”  What terms or words can be used and where to increase your “google juice” or increase your SEO ranking.

There are three important elements of your blog that can increase your rankings on the search engines:

1. Title

2. Content

3. Tags

If you follow these suggestions faithfully and consistently, you should see a jump in how high up your blog ranks on a search engine.

This post will cover Content. Think about the phrase “Content is King.”  Content is what keeps people reading or listening to your message.  In blogging, content is the only thing that will keep people coming back to read what you have to say. The quality of content in the blog is directly related to how people will respond. Ben Kinney suggested that people blog about things they are passionate about! It’s so much easier to write about things you are interested in.

My blogging journey has been a interesting as I have learned WHAT to blog about and HOW to come up with ideas.  Reading other bloggers is the best way to develop the thinking skill to create content.  WARNING: just because someone else wrote about a specific topic it does not mean you should write about it, so create a strategy before you jump in and let he keys fly.  Just learn from others and decide what works for you and will be of value to your reader.

Developing content can be exciting when you let your imagination go. Content all needs to tie back to what a consumer or your target market is interested in hearing.  Localism is very important content if you are selling real estate or promoting a business within a certain geographic area. Writing about local events, local community amenities, local businesses, schools, city council everything going on within a specific area.  If you would like to be the “go to” person within that vicinity then the content you write about should include what is happening within that area. This principle applies to any business trying to create a presence in a community.

Think about how you find information on something going on around you.  Google, Ping or yahoo might be places you type in key words to find what you are looking for.  If you want the consumer to find you by a high SEO ranking on a blog post then you need to have the content scattered with key words which the search engines will pick up in your in all three areas: title, content and key words.

Writing about a community and then writing about specific properties in a community will get your message out to the consumer.  When they are looking on the search engines for information about a specific area, your blog posts should come up and they will see you everywhere and sharing information about everything in that community.  The goal is to use your blog to generate communication via e-mail, any social media venues such as twitter, facebook, linkedin and the best yet, they simply call you.  Once the communicaition lines have been opened from your blog content then taking the relationship off line to a phone call and meeting will create the results you are looking for in blogging.  A real time appointment with someone who can use your business or service is the 21st century reason to blog.

Use keywords at a density of 2-4% of the entire post. Make sure to repeat your keywords or phrase 2-3% of the time. Using the keywords or phrase too often can not only be annoying to any reader, it also doesn’t help the search engines pick you out any better.

Stick to strictly 300-500 words per post. I am guilty of violating this guideline. One of our goals with blogging is to share valuable information with people. If we’re doing that correctly, any more than 500 words is just too much information on one subject all at once. Break it up into multiple posts!

Start and end the post with your keyword phrase. Simple! Search engines like this.

Use 2-4 outgoing links, and make them useful! (Tip: don’t use “here” or “click here” when linking- use a phrase or keywords that are related to the link, and don’t only link to the home page of a site- go deeper)

Include pictures. Really this is for the reader. It enhances the whole experience for them. Video is another important aspect you should consider including to enhance your SEO.

Coming soon: Part 3 of the SEO 101 series and a new series on creating a strategy for your content.

Blog Ranking SEO 101 for Beginners Part 1 of 3 Title

Follow the simple steps for key word rich content to increase your SEO ranking.

Don’t Drink the Kool-aid!

Don’t Drink the Kool-aid!

Why is it that some people follow blindly and don’t think about what they are reading and how they actually feel?

Why do they join in with what a crowd is doing instead of being true to themselves?

WARNING:  Don’t Drink the Kool-aid!

Think about how powerful personalities actually can manipulate what you think.  It could be you read what they write and think because they write a lot that what they say is the way things should be.  WRONG!

What is right for one person might not be right for you.  It’s ok, we are all different! You can read other writers, you can listen to the news and determine what sounds like your character and what doesn’t.  Just don’t read ANYTHING and blindly accept it as valid because a “celebrity” personality type is writing it or talking about it on TV or radio.

How do you know what is right for you?

  • Start be defining WHO you are.
  • Then determine WHAT your voice should be following your personal identification.

Key questions to consider when defining who you are:

  1. What is my purpose and reason for being?
  2. What am I doing to follow this purpose?
  3. How do I need to change my behavior to reflect the vision of who I am?
  4. Am I strong enough to stand up for what I believe in and who I am?

It’s all about being able to Read, Think and Reason!

Take the time to figure out what is important to you and determine if your actions are in accordance with your highest sense of right.  This concept actually requires some quiet thinking time and may not happen instantly.  This process can’t be rushed! Determine the type of people you want to attract and be around then let your actions and words shine through everything you do so they just normally connect with who you are. Once you have determined who you are you can then find your voice.  Follow that voice and don’t forget to listen.  You can’t hear if you are talking!

If you are always doing what is right, to you, then you are living who you are. You are being transparent and honest with your readers and your friends.

  • If an article you read does not resonate with you….Don’t drink the Kool-aid!
  • If you are listening to a news channel and you think what they are saying could be wrong… it might be…Don’t drink the Kool-aid!
  • If you see injustice where people are doing something wrong…Don’t drink the Kool-aid!
  • If you are talking with someone and they are wrong in your opinion…Don’t drink the Kool-aid!

Be true to yourself by knowing who you are and what you believe! Remember the Beach Boys song about their school?  What about yourself?  Apply the words and be true to yourself.

Read information, process and Think about what it says, Reason out all the possible options in understanding the information provided and act accordingly based on who you are!

Thunderbirds… Did You Say Thunderbirds?!

Thunderbirds… Did You Say Thunderbirds?!

[print_this]Author Joan Marie Verba will be joining me on Blogtalkradio Tuesday May 4th at 9:00am PST to discuss the first installment in her Science Fiction series, “Countdown to Action! A Thunderbirds™ novel.” Verba’s Thunderbirds™ series is based on the original British television show that aired from 1965-1966. She will be sharing with us what the novels are about, how exactly they came about, and how people can participate in the book’s re-launch party on May 18th. You can join us on May 4th at 9:00am PST by listening online and participate in the chatroom, or you can call in to 347-994-1903.[/print_this]

A synopsis of the thrilling Science Fiction book: “After his wife dies in a tragic accident, astronaut Jeff Tracy is left with five young sons to raise. But he turns his grief into a dream: to create an organization which will rescue people that no one else can reach. He builds a business which creates the new technology that the organization will require and earns the billions he needs to finance it. At last, he is ready to put it all together. He enlists the services of a genius to design aircraft and supporting machinery far beyond the standards of his time. Together, they find a Pacific island to use as the base for their operations. Jeff asks his five sons, now grown, to give up promising careers to build the base, operate the machines, and serve in his organization. But he finds that in order to make his dream a reality, it will require sacrifice, courage, and determination…far beyond what he, or his sons, ever expected. Can they make International Rescue a reality, and what will it take to make the fantastic Thunderbird machines go?”

Verba is a long-time fan of the Thunderbirds™ television series, and sees its relevance for our own decade: “These stories of disaster and rescue really resonate with people.” She expects the book series to kindle interest in the Thunderbirds phenomenon among a whole new generation.

What Does Your Home Mean to You?

What Does Your Home Mean to You?

“The House That Built Me” Congratulations Miranda Lambert!

The 45th Annual Academy of County Music Awards aired live from Las Vegas at the MGM Grand on CBS on April 18. 2010.

Miranda Lambert’s “Revolution” won album of the year at the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday night presented during the televised awards ceremony.

Miranda Lambert also won top female vocalist of the year!

Miranda Lambert sang “The House That Built Me”

Lyrics Songwriters: Douglas, Tom; Shamblin, Allen

This song exemplifies how some people feel about a home.

Words to ponder as we process what makes a house a home and the emotions inside.

The House That Built Me Lyrics

I know they say you cant go home again.
I just had to come back one last time.
Ma?am I know you don’t know me from Adam.
But these handprints on the front steps are mine.
And up those stairs, in that little back bedroom
is where I did my homework and I learned to play guitar.
And I bet you didn’t know under that live oak
my favorite dog is buried in the yard.

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
this brokenness inside me might start healing.
Out here its like I’m someone else,
I thought that maybe I could find myself
if I could just come in I swear I’ll leave.
Won?t take nothing but a memory
from the house that built me.

Mama cut out pictures of houses for years.
From Better Homes and Garden magazines.
Plans were drawn, concrete poured,
and nail by nail and board by board
Daddy gave life to mama’s dream.

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
this brokenness inside me might start healing.
Out here its like I’m someone else,
I thought that maybe I could find myself.
If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave.
Won’t take nothing but a memory
from the house that built me.

You leave home, you move on and you do the best you can.
I got lost in this whole world and forgot who I am.

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
this brokenness inside me might start healing.
Out here its like I’m someone else,
I thought that maybe I could find myself.
If I could walk around I swear I’ll leave.
Won’t take nothing but a memory
from the house that built me.

What memories are inside your home?
