I think your feelings are a wakeup call for all retail and service businesses. They are going to have to do something to monitor customer acceptance. With social media products like yelp and foursquare where consumers are shouting out to their friends on their smart phones what they thought about a business or service they better shape up. Those businesses offering top of the bar service will get ALL the business. Until that modification takes place... deep breaths and laugh as you step over the bar and DON"T go back.. tell the owner or manager nicely then let your actions show them how important it is to get the level of service up to the top of that bar.

This question has a very simple answer... YES! I think service has gone way down in the past few years. Maybe it's because the economy got so bad and people are grumpy about their new lives, maybe it's because people are being forced to take jobs they really don't want, or maybe people are just lazy. No matter the reason, service has gone way down hill. It's really hard to deal with people in any service related industry that you know don't want to help you! I wish I knew how to not get so angry about the lack of service. I always think about if I was that person- and all the things I would be doing to help someone out, and that's what makes me so mad. I guess I just need to learn to "Step Over It" and not get so angry about things I can't change!

Carra Riley's book "Cosmic Cow Pie...Connecting the Dots" is truly a page turner. In her easy to read book Carra Riley lays out fourteen down-to-earth principles for avoiding stress and bringing balance to your life. She does this with humor and commonsense. I highly recommend this book to all those looking to bring order to a chaotic life.

So people should save the drama for their mamas . . . and keep me out of it!

Carra Riley has taken common sense wisdom which we can all use and made it fun. I just finished this wonderful book and found myself nodding, chuckling, and making notes over and over. it is a gem of a book full of practical useful and very do-able plans to make life manageable, less stressful, and thoughtful. the chapters "Its Not My Monkey," and "Kicked to the Curb," took longer to read through only as so many examples from my own life and those people I know came to mind. I wish every teenager going to college, or leaving home, had this book under their arms, and all of us could use it especially when life's changes and stressors seem higher than normal, or as Carra Riley describes it cow pies are flying at us. Using humor and practical wisdom makes those times manageable so that one can perhaps enjoy the learning curves life gives us.

The term "direct discussion" by itself might be too clinical when suggesting techniques for those in any sort of conflict. The phrase "We don't need Dr.Phil, let's pretend..." removes the stereotypical stigma of a problem that needs professional help. Resolution comes with the breakdown of barriers. Most people are familiar with Dr. Phil's mannerisms and persona. He eleviates stress and tension right up front and addresses the need for resolution through respect and critical thinking. Using "we don't need Dr.Phil" has given me personal inroads to conversation that I might not have otherwise known how to begin. Explaining this and saying for instance, lets use this analogy regarding X"... it works. Some subject matters are very personal and tough to convey true concern without appearing judgmental. Using "We don't need Dr.Phil" is a great segway to "directly discuss" matters that might be less approachable with standard conversation openers like "we need to talk", "there's something that needs addressing" or "there is something that has been on my mind". Using a guideline such as this is a phenomenal insight of technique borrowed from familiarity. This is the barrier that has been broken down: resolution in unfamiliar territory.

I am one of those mothers who try to smooth out life's potholes and road blocks for my children – even though they are both in their 20's. Taking on their "monkeys" has not allowed them to learn how to make choices and suffer consequences on their own. In a last ditch effort to "help" my son find a direction, I supported him, financially and emotionally, through hist first semester of community college last fall. He dropped out of high school at 16. He is now 25. I was the cheerleader all semester…and finally when grades came out in December, I was so excited to see his grades. He failed all his classes. Because I had put so much of myself into this semester, I just cried.

Coincidently, I had just been given a preview copy of Cosmic Cow Pie……connecting the dots. That same day, that I saw my son's grades, I was reading Chapter 11 It's Not My Monkey. "Sometimes we take on responsibility that is not ours!" Wow - did I need to hear that message. I am really working on stepping back and stepping out of my son's life. He was able to get one more semester of financial aid and is back in school this spring – with a renewed attitude. I let him know that I was drawing a line in the sand and could not go on being so emotionally and financially involved in his life.

I am really grateful to Carra for the gift of her book and the reminder about these easily remembered principles of life. I can and do proudly shout IT'S NOT MY MONKEY!

France and Germany Govt have asked that IE ( Internet Explorer) browser be removed. There are many articles, but there is one article directly from Microsoft. IE has coding flaws and security was hacked. Main threat: IE6 on XP OS, but IE7 and 8 along with OS Vista and Windows 7 have the flaw. Safest bet is to clean and update all security on computer and switch to using Firefox, Google Chrome, Avant, Opera, Safari, whatever works for you. There are many browsers and no need to put your computer at risk until Microsoft corrects the issue. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.
