“Photography Is The Currency That Connects”

"Photography is the currency that connects" says Charles Lupica  professional Photographer from Neuchatel,  Switzerland as he explained the photo theme pages that he founded at Google+.

Have you been wondering about the photo themes on Google+?

Are you a little intimidated about sharing your photos?

Meet Charles Lupica from Neuchatel, Switzerland and his team Tuesday, June 5, 2012 9:00 a.m. PDT on blogtalkradio when we discuss how photography really is the currency that connected all of us.

Charles leads three very successful theme pages on Google+:

    Sacred Sunday

    Monochrome Monday

   Daily Fine Art Themes

Charles is a shining example of the Google+ community being helpful and kind with engagement as people share their love of the images seen in the photography posted or posting their own content. He and his co-curators make feel people feel special with their comments.

Heartfelt engagement with Charles team members is the reason this blogtalkradio show transpired. As I began to connect with people all over the world through photos the comments and kindness of the people on this team stood out like a beacon of light in the night.  This is such an exciting way to meet people and engage on a common interest level that I felt it was important to share what Google+ has that can help anyone trying to connect with others and share their expertise in cyberspace.  Photography offers color interest, subject interest and inspires people to start seeing differently and practice themselves to be able to share what they do through photographs.

Charles William Lupica junior started taking pictures when he was in his teens as he wanted to have pictures of his father; who never seemed to be in a photograph. Charles grew up in the turbulent 60's and had interesting ideas of what to do in life and seriously thought of pursuing photography as a career. But life went in other directions…….

In 1979, while attending the University of Florida, Charles meet Deborah, his future wife, In 1981 Charles earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida and together, Charles and Deborah set out for Colorado to seek their fortune….Charles will share more with us on the show and how he ended up in Switzerland.  Check out his work at studio Lupica. The purple flower to the side is one of Charles Lupica's photographs.

Sacred Sunday is a photo theme started by Charles on Google+, the guidelines are as follows:

"Sharing spirituality, contemplation, reflection and mediation through photography

Sacred Sunday is curated by Charles Lupica Manfred Berndtgen , Robyn Morrison   and  Margaret Tompkins

This weekly photography theme encourages you to share with us and with the G+ community what you hold sacred; people praying, temples, and churches are great choices.  We also want to encourage you to post images that share your personal sense of what is sacred, be it a mountain, sunset, or loaf of bread.  More than anything, Sacred Sunday is about sharing.

We promote no religion over any other and invite you to share with us what you hold sacred."

Introduction:

"I'm a photographer, learning, teaching, and documenting the world around me.  My favorite subjects are landscapes, birds, wildlife, people and pets.  I especially like taking photographs of figure skaters.  I like to learn from other photographers and share photographs.

I love cats and helping animal shelters.

I'm in tune with older music from the late 50s and early 60s and have always enjoyed Dick Dale, Jan & Dean, the Beach Boys, surf music, and early rock & roll."

Manfred Berndtgen   from Germany                                                                                                                                                            Photo by Manfred Berndtgen

Introduction:

"After years full of privation in a science job, I started working for money, being a software developer first and now system administrator. Since that moment I have enough spare time for useless things and sharing them with the rest of the world.

I have some highbrow hobbies like my wife and me growing ferns and palms, calligraphy, history, and dabbling with old cameras. I suppressed my desire to take photos for a long time, but I failed: photography has become my favourite waste of time. My favorite photographic subjects are plants and stones, with some emphasis on streets and sacral architecture.

Being in sort of a retro mood induced and fired by my wife, I'm discovering the joys of film photography for some time."

Living in Paradise!

Introduction:

I'm a busy working mum with two grown daughters & a retired partner.  I've loved photography and photo journaling for years and have built up a fairly large portfolio.  Now I have a few more hours on my hands I'm trying to learn more about different photography techniques, composition & post processing tricks & tips.    All constructive comments are gratefully received!!

The process to post in a photo theme group on google+ is easy and fun when you know the rules!  Follow them and you will connect with people all over the world and share your message.

Posting Your Photo.

Across the top of the "Stream Page" locate the "Share What's New" button.

1. Click to add your photo, browse and upload from your computer
2. Give the photo a title
3. Describe where and when it was taken.
4. Important. Only post photos that you own the rights to.  Do NOT post someone else's photos.

Add The Curators Names so they can follow the post and be notified.

All of the daily photo themes are curated by individuals they are not or work for google.  By adding their name, which becomes a hyplerlink they receive a  "Notification" about  the post and can respond.

Posting Your Photo To The Theme Page.

First, add the theme page to your circles as the "Page" can NOT 1+ or comment on your post until it has been circled.  Go to the "Theme Page" and click on "Follow" it is in red. Add it to your circles.

The process allows you to add your photo directly to the "Theme Page" should you wish to do that. After the photo has been uploaded, click on the photo and it will open up in the G+ Lightbox. On the right is a button for "Tag People" Click  it and see a new button. "Add A New Tag" Click this and then click on your photo, a white circle will show up then enter the page name.  REMEMBER the + sign or @  +SacredSunday or whatever theme you are trying to tag  will appear as you type with suggestions.

Engage With The Theme.

Get in the game!  To do this you should not only post your photo but remark and 1+ other theme participants photos.  This process is to help you engage with others and sharing along with 1+ing is how it is done.  You talk to them and they talk to you.  The Golden Rule of engagement!

Make comments about the other photos, say what you like about them, what makes them stand out for you.  Under all circumstances be kind.. in all types of social media if you are trying to connect with people kindness, respect and thoughtfulness will help more than anything.

Ready for some fun?  Check out the photo themes on Google+

Rolf Nicker Photography has created a list of themes on Google+ for every single day and #theme pages. Open the link and read about concepts that might interest you and get in the game.

I maintain a page called #BridgesAroundTheworld where anyone can post bridges from any place to meet and engage with others sharing information from their part of the world.  Go take some bridge pictures an come and post to share your bridge connecting the world! Let's build bridges together.

Don't forget to join in the fun with Charles Lupica and his team in Sacred Sunday, Monochrome Monday and check out the Daily Fine Art Themes

Connecting the Dots Around The World in South Africa

Connecting The Dots Around The World In South Africa .

Welcome to the Cosmic Cow Pie Blogtalkradio series connecting the dots around the world.  Thursday, April 19, 2012 9:00 a.m. MDT we will have international guest,  Johan Horak from South Africa. Learn how Johan is connecting daily with people from around the globe on Google+.  Set a reminder here to join us online, ask questions in the chat room, call in during the show 347-994-1903 or post anything you would like discussed in the comments for discussion on Thursdays, live show.

Johan has a wonderful story with his family evolving from visions of being a CEO in the metal industry to owning one of the top producing second hand stores in South Africa and now helping people build relationships and enrich lives through social media.

Johan published a post on google+ that went "cosmic" with over 168 comments on "14 ways to Learn How to Helpfully Ride The Coattails of Google+ influencers"  We will be discussing his strategy and how it worked out. My initial contact with Johan came from a Pinterest conversation on Google+ where we were talking with Guy Kawasaki of former Apple fame currently "What The Plus" e-book , Enchantment and Alltop notoriety, about the status of Pinteresst in the social media hierarchy. Conversations on Google+ have now turned global and we are connecting the social media dots on blogtalkradio.

Johan will share the trials and practice it has taken to be able to communicate with anyone around the world on Google+  This is what he says about the platform "Never in my life have I come across such an resistant free platform. I am able to communicate with the most influential to the latest newbie…..

This is a social media principle I ascribe to: Before you sell you need to create cultivation pools where you can nature long term trusting relationships…..The focus for me was not on return on investment anymore. Input vs output bull. I became like an artist. I did what I love first. At all cost before I chase anything. Now the fun started….

I am challenged by new methods. How do I use these tools to brand businesses and individuals. I tend see communication opportunities in a strategy and branding way. This means that I easily identify new technology that solves these problems. Internal and external. It's natural for me to package various communications solution in a user friendly way."

This interview starts our series with people from around the world where we can discuss the countries and cities we visited on our journey around the world.  Talking with local people puts a new perspective on the things we saw and experienced.  Johan has cleared up many of my questions in our e-mail and skype conversations getting to know one another as global connectors.

Johan and his family live in Simonstown which is about 45 minutes outside Cape Town, South Africa. Some may not know much about Cape Town or South Africa.  Cricket, famous golfers, Camps Beach, Nelson Mandela, Apartheid are a few things you might think about when someone says, South Africa.  There is so much more like world class shopping, diving with the sharks, safaris with the big five and elephant rides on the reserve are things that make this destination a place you want to put on your radar or even your bucket list.  Johan's wife Elmarie and daughter Nandi are very busy managing their vacation rental business, Cape Holiday Home Rentals with over 300 beautiful properties and might be able to help you make a dream come true.  Check out some of the beautiful homes for rent in the Cape Town, South Africa area on Pinterest .

Having experienced South Africa on our recent voyage around the world,  I want to encourage you to check out the photos and think about making a trip to this extraordinary place.  There is so much history and there still continues to be history in the making.  You will want to see Table mountain become covered with clouds that looks like a table cloth, and the harbor at night.  Have a "sundowners" party in the bush with your tracker and hear the roar of the big cats as they settle down at night.

Hope to see you on line in the chat room or call in live 347-994-1903 to ask questions of Johan Horak as we discover how to connect globally on Blogtalkradio Thursday, April 19, 2012 9:00 a.m. MDT

You now have a global connection with Johan Horak and his family so what are you waiting for?  Connect with Johan all over cyberspace…. circle him in Google+, follow him on twitter and Pinterest and connect on linkedin.
