How To Add Text To Photos To Share On Social Media Using A Mac

Learn how to add text to photos to share on social media using a Mac computer!

6 easy steps will make you look like a marketing genius by adding your own custom text to graphics that you create with your own camera shots.

Create unique photo posts that include your branding and your inspirational message to share on facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, Tumblr, Google+ and more!

Use the same process to add custom text on stock photos provided you are NOT violating copyright rules when using them.  Tina Red Johnson, a Web marking consultant and social media manager,  shares some important copyright information on the Photo Tour Global Directory™ blog that could be helpful to read before using an image that you did not shoot or create.

CAUTION… be sure to read the Copyright regulations prior to ever customizing someone else’s photo whether it is free or you paid for it!

Have some fun with photos expressing a message that is unique to you by adding text to a simple photo.  Below is a background shot taken by aiming the camera at some flowers that had sun shining on them and leaving the camera out of focus only showing the mix of colors.  Click  to shoot and upload the image to the computer for some colorful background photos to customize with an inspiring message!

6 Easy step to add text to photos:

1.  Open  the photo on your Mac computer in Preview.  You will see the preview bar at the top with “file, edit, view, tools”

A open the graphic you want to customize with text

2.  On the top Preview tool bar go to Tools tab then drop down to Annotate and click on Add Text  for a box to open on your photo.

A go to tool bar select Annotate then add text

This is a text box to add your custom words

3.  Go to text box on the screen and put the cursor in the box.  Then go up to the tool bar again and click on “Tools” going down to “Show Fonts.”  so you can select the font type, color and size you want to use in the newly formed text box.

A go to tools and select fonts

4.  A Font box will show up on the screen  so you can select the font type, color and size you want to use in the newly formed text box.   Select the color from the box that has the T and green color box. When you click on the color box you can select the color you want to use on your text.   You will also select the size of the font and typeface all on the same page before typing in the text box.

From Font drop down menu click the style and size of font and the color

5.  Type in the message in the text box that shows up as fine lines with circle grab spots on the text box that will allow you to enlarge the text area to cover what you want.

Type in your text and then open save as from file on top menu bar

6.  Final step… save your work!  Go to the Save As on the drop down menu under the “File” tap at the top.  Be sure to use “Save As” so you keep your base image free of changes and can use it over and over again. Label your work with a title you will remember.  If you want to add your company website at the bottom of the photo it is another way to brand your message.

When you are done adding your text go to file and save as whatever you want to name it

A save your edited graphic in SAVE AS so you can keep the original clean for other words. Know where you want to save it.

Finished post that can be shared on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Google+ and Linkedin took minutes to create.

Photo Tour Global Directory™ Grand Canyon Temperature Inversion

Saturday, November 30, 2013 was a once in a 10 year experience for a Photo Tour Global Directory™ event with a “total temperature inversion” at the Grand Canyon, according to the National Park Service in an article posted by The Atlantic. The entire Grand Canyon was FILLED with clouds and not a single cloud in the sky above the canyon.  An incredible sight you are going to enjoy!

The National Weather Service explains temperature inversion as:”The warm air above cooler air acts like a lid, suppressing vertical mixing and trapping the cooler air at the surface.”

The Photo Tour Global Directory™ tour group going to the Grand Canyon to shoot the sunrise had no idea what a history making day this would be with a total cloud inversion.  The warm air of the cloudless sky was trapping the fog in the entire canyon for a unique viewing experience.  Being above the clouds was exhilarating as the sun filled the sky and the things became clear through the mist.

The photos tell the story best!  We arrived at the blue hour

The best shots of the day were taken by a 15 year old young man on the tour who shares his photography under the name “Faceplant Photography.”  He captured the essence of the total temperature inversion as the sun rose on Saturday, November 30, 2013.  He also caught his dad reflecting on the majesty of the Grand Canyon and the wonder of it all!

Photography And Engagement, Are You In The Game?

Photography and engagement, are you in the game to win with new connections?

We are in the digital image age and any impression a business shares, has is about 3 seconds to do it’s job to determine if a potential client might click on the photo for more information when a link is included. Photography is the doorway to engagement™ so your first impression is going to set the tone for winning in the marketing game.

Advertising today has to have an image with the “gottcha” factor.

Big companies are sharing images created by consumers on Instagram and Pinterest to encourage engagement and sharing of their business profiles and links.  The images anyone is posting on social media venues have the potential of being shared all over the world.  This new technique of connecting should inspire anyone looking to promote their own business, product or service to have the best photos possible to share in an methodical program to bring continuity to the story being told to bring a consumer to action.  That call to action can be sharing the post or opening a link which asks the consumer to make a decision to buy or subscribe to a newsletter.  The key to getting that call to action in motion is the graphic or photo shown to stimulate the behavior.   To be in the game as the business or consumer the images you post must create an emotions when viewed.

Home Depot has a Halloween Event going on with a daily theme of photos to share on Instagram.   The program is called the “Photo-A-Day Challenge.”  Home Depot has invited the public to share photos on Halloween or Fall with specific themes for seven days prior to Halloween.  You can see the themes in the graphic identified by day.

Home Depot Photo Theme contest

The Theme to share on Instagram for October 24, 2013 was Leaves and the daily post for Home Depot shared the theme so people would be able to follow, know the hash tags to use and comment!  # or Hashtags are used as searchable words.

Home Depot Photo a day challange

Below is the Home Depot Instagram profile page and you can see the posts from each day and that they are starting to SHARE on Instagram a photo selected from the Photo-A-Day challenge with the hash tags #letsdothis #fall #HomeDepot #PhotoOfTheday #Halloween #October and more.    By using the hash tags on the posts the terms are searchable on Instagram which are sometime shared on twitter and also fall into trending words on cross social media platforms.  What that means to Home Depot is that their name will be showing up in searches for #Halloween #Leaves #Fall #letsdothis #PhotoOfTheDay #autumn #inspiration

Interesting how Home Depot is taking the word #inspiration as one of the hashtags as anyone searching the word, inspiration will come across the Home Depot tags by hundreds or thousands of posts of consumers in the game.

This shot shows Home Depot sharing a consumer post with leaves posted by @ellaclairblog   Home Depot has 43,123 followers on Instragram so  this is a huge shout out for @ellaclairblog as it shows up on the Home Depot Instagram profile page and starts conversations and engagement just from the photograph.

Carra Riley Instagram profile

Home Depot has a social media team that commented within 2 minutes of posting this photos of leaves.  Instagram is ONLY a mobile app and consumers can only be accessing this Instagram event on their photos.  For Photographers this is a great way to get some of your work out.  There is an app called iWatermark to have your name added to the photo for additional exposure.

Home Depot has a planned posting agenda to use photography as the doorway to engagement.  Get in the game and start posting your photos for additional exposure from large companies encouraging photo sharing.

If you do not have photography skills you might want to connect with a local photographer to learn about possible classes or even personal tutoring.  If you don’t have time to capture images around your area you can connect with local photographers through the Photo Tour Global Directory™ site and hire someone to create the story you want to tell through images.

Photography is the doorway to engagement™.  Stunning images must be part of the posting mix if you are in the game to win!
